revealed earlier this week that the 43-year-old Scot was Bolton’s top choice but they are aware that luring him away from Turf Moor is not a straight forward process.
Pointing the way? Owen Coyle is said to be Bolton's first choice as the replacement for Gary Megson
Coyle spent two fruitful years at Bolton as a player and would like the chance to work at a bigger club but the timing is not great.
Coyle has impressed greatly by bringing them up from the Championship on a shoestring budget.
He has already turned down offers from Celtic and Scotland and, ideally, would like to finish the job of keeping Burnley up.
He has also been working hard to bring in players. Coyle said: ‘I have had speculation time and time again but, as always, I am concentrating on the job in hand.’
His departure would open up the door at Turf Moor for another Bolton candidate Peter Reid.
